A Developer’s Journey
If Art cannot move heart and mind, then why do we keep talking about movies and books? Why do we talk about games with our friends?
Right now there are bigger issues, true. Things seem to fall apart, there are cracks at the seams everywhere you look around the world. Many people struggle, huge uncertainy about the future, there is not enough time, not enough money… do you have that feeling too?
The mission of Parable Games is to create games you can talk about again, sometimes making you wonder. Software and assets that strive for excellence. Pieces of Art that hopefully can move your heart and mind, and move you forward in tough times. The games we want to create will not hold you by your hand – instead they take it and try to lift you up.
Sounds like a tall and arduous task with a small chance of succes, because that is what it is.
But we at Parable Games do not give up our dreams so easily without giving it a fair shot!
Mario Binder started his developer’s journey in 2019 with Construction Simulator by weltenbauer. SE. Apart from constructing roads and filling concrete through coding, the three-year project also offered invaluable insights into collaborating within large teams and maintaining resilience under pressure. This experience helped him launch Parable Games in 2022, providing other developers with the building blocks for their own games. With hundreds of downloads, the Geometry and Cloud Shadows packages have become sought-after products, adding powerful yet simple-to-use solutions to demanding workflows.
The following year, Mario began teaching the Game Engineering course for the master’s degree program in Software Design and Engineering at FH Campus Vienna. As the largest university of applied sciences in Austria, its focus on practical applications provides his students with mathematical fundamentals applicable to all aspects of software development. Since then, new courses have been added to cover the bachelor’s degree as well.
At the same time, in 2023, he set himself a challenge: creating and releasing a commercial game from start to finish. Admittedly, this plan had gone wrong in the past when he worked for nine months on a three-dimensional tower defense title with mystical trains. The prophetically named End of The Line grew too complex with every railway track and had to be left unfinished.
But this time was different. Drawing from his past successes and failures, Pyramid – Seven Wonders became Mario’s first commercial game release. Offering high-quality gameplay, a distinctly Egyptian aesthetic, and a dedicated online multiplayer mode, the mobile app was finished in record time – in less than three months. If it is possible to create such a polished game as an individual, who knows what stories will be possible with larger teams in the future?
At the crossroads of technology and art, Parable Games brings mastery to all aspects of game development, taking players on interactive journeys that they will remember. These experiences can be fun but also frightening. Entertaining but also challenging.
